This is not my genre. So why did I read it? Honestly, a friend started reading it and said she needed support, so I figured why not.
While I appreciate the way Hoover was able to create a creepy feeling throughout the series; the content was difficult (attempted self-abortions, child abuse/endangerment) and the sex seemed to be a placeholder for depth. Trust me, I love spice, but this book felt like it couldn’t decide if it wanted to be smut or horror.
The narrator very quickly is presented to be unreliable, as is the main antagonist of the book, so in the end, you’re not sure who to believe, with a final twist that seems to be an attempt to either make the antagonist a martyr, confuse the reader or throw a spotlight on the husband. Either way, not a fan and do not recommend.

Hi! I’m Adrienne. I really love reading books – it doesn’t matter if it’s a classic novel on a rainy day or the latest bestseller while lying in the sun. I also really enjoy sharing my thoughts about books with others. This is why I write book reviews, to help fellow book lovers find their next great read.
