Really Good, Actually

Honestly, I snagged this one for my TBR list because of the author (Schitt’s Creek, DUH) and the unique cover. I jumped it up in my library reads because I was looking for something breezy between several titles by one author.

I’ve gone back and forth between a 2 and 3 star rating multiple times, eventually sticking with a two.

Definitely not the book I was looking for. This journey through someone’s first year of divorce is painful and gritty, with a main character who made me cringe with her lack of self-awareness and disregard for others. Maybe it’s because I’ve been off-the-rails that I had such a visceral reaction to Maggie. Even though the story arc somewhat resolved at the book’s end, I felt bad about myself, even embarrassed and emotionally spent.

There are some lighter moments that are modern and unique – such as the character’s internet search history, and some of the random lists, but it’s not enough to lift this title out of the grey.
