I recently re-read all of the published Dark Olympus series in anticipation of Katee Robert’s newest fantasy foray, and this is definitely a fun new direction for Queen Katee. It has all of her best elements: imperfect female characters, dark broody male characters, unexpected lessons and choices, as well as a slow burn, enemies-to-lovers romance.
Evelyn is a pickpocket of a witch who stumbles into an in-between dimension while running away from an angry ex-vampire girlfriend. Bowen is a telekinetic pirate captain who rescues her, and almost immediately regrets it. Together, a series of twists and turns forces them to make difficult choices while they realize things are not what they first appear.
A perfect weekend read, that I would have enjoyed being a little longer with a little more time spent on world-building and conflicts. While the spice is top-notch, it felt like there was slightly more spice than plot this time.
