Blank is a book within a book, which gets a little meta. Essentially, the author (Owens) is writing from the point of view of an author (Jones). Jones gets her story stolen (there’s a twist) and her publisher needs an idea from her. She pitches the idea of a no-book book, and uncovers the unfairness of the publishing industry and her own life in the process.
Things I loved: Pippa’s authenticity of being an aging mom, trying to keep it together. Her friends (mostly). Her secret side hustle. And how life falls apart and together very quickly.
Things I struggled with: that the book idea got accepted, that she single-handedly reformed the industry, and just .. bounced back from all the things. Some of the characters felt one-dimensional, while others you just wanted to know more about.
This is a cute concept, and a solid one-sitting read for a Sunday afternoon.
