The Plated Prisoner Series

5/5

First and foremost, I started this series in 2022, reading and loving Gild. After years of waiting, I splurged and purchased the other four releases in the series over the winter – then devoured them over the course of a few weeks this spring (two years later).

I was drawn to the series because of the unique premise: a retelling of King Midas, except the gold flows from his long-time companion, Auren. The series, at least the first five books, follows the story of Auren as she grows in her powers, her knowledge and confidence of who she is and what she’s capable of, as well as her knowledge of the world(s). We’re introduced to so many pivotal characters along the way, most notably, the dualistic Commander Rip and Slade Ravinger.

There’s romance and betrayal, horror and awe, morally gray characters, and complex side characters who play into the story and character arcs in unexpected ways. The romance is dark, yet pure, and with enough true heat and depth to make your heart race.

I definitely suffered a serious book hangover following the completion of the first five books, while waiting anxiously for the final installment to be released this spring. The series is the complete package for fans of dark romantasy, hitting the mark with characters, story and world-building – something many series don’t take as seriously.
